May 28, 2007 My art is an extension of my experiences, and my feelings. What I see in my surroundings—based on where I am, how I relate to it, and the material conditions available for artmaking—are composed vicariously in my mind through an experiential process, that translates the inner vision and personal attachment I have of a particular place, a special moment, or an irresistible idea. I translate these into works so that I do not lose the memory of this experience of seeing it mentally, how it moved me, and how it has changed my outlook of the world. I experiment with materials to give me a different level of excitement: to explore, to question or criticize the assumptions about art and artmaking, and to challenge my mind to do other things other than what I have been accustomed to. I cannot literally repeat a work I have previously done, for I easily wear out a standard repertoire, and I ceaselessly look for alternatives to my current state of artmaking. Art is something that moves me in a way that cannot be expressed in words…it simply happens intuitively. But it is also something that I must explore keenly, that does not result from sheer accident. My art results from a long process of experimentation and build up of experiences, and moves from phase to phase, gathering motifs here and there, but eventually resulting in a cyclic transformation that pushes my ideas and way of looking beyond the present. It results from my own condition as an individual human being and an artist always in search of a new expression. By exploring the further potentials for art as I go on, I make my work relevant to my life.
